Dance Auditions
Dance Auditions at Florida Southern
Every student who wants to major or minor in dance at Florida Southern auditions first. Your audition determines acceptance into the program and, for BFA and BA applicants, scholarship consideration.
Auditions are required for the BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography, the BA in Dance Studies, and the dance minor. Scholarships are available to majors only.

Who Should Audition
This live audition is for students who have already applied to Florida Southern College and who intend to major or minor in Dance Studies or Dance Performance and Choreography.
All students intending to major or minor in dance must meet Florida Southern's academic requirements for admission and must schedule an audition.
What to Expect at Your Audition
Two or three dance program faculty members conduct each audition.
Group Audition
The audition includes a short ballet barre, a ballet center combination, contemporary modern technique phrase work, and an improvisation exercise that demonstrates creative and analytical skills.
Solo and Interview
BFA and BA applicants also perform a 90-second solo to demonstrate performance ability, followed by a short individual interview with the evaluating faculty.
What to Wear
Attire should be neat, clean, and allow faculty to observe your movement clearly. Wear dance attire such as a leotard and tights. Bring ballet slippers, and be prepared to dance barefoot. You may be asked to do pointe work at the instructor's discretion.
Secure your hair off your face and leave large jewelry at home.
What to Submit
Upload both of the following to your audition registration form:
- A letter of recommendation from a current or past dance instructor
- A self-photo (headshot, dance photo, or enlarged snapshot)
If your recommender prefers to submit the letter directly, they can send it to danceauditions@flsouthern.edu.
Video Auditions
Auditions are held in person. Under special circumstances, students may submit a video recorded audition. Email danceauditions@flsouthern.edu to ask about eligibility.
