Choosing the Right Application
Common App vs. FSC’s Application
Aug 10, 2026
Senior year comes with a lot of decisions. Here's one we can make easier.
Florida Southern, you can apply with either the Common App or the FSC Preferred Application. Both are free. Both are read the same way. The only real difference is which one fits how you're working.
Let’s break it down.
The Common App: One Application, Many Colleges
More than 1,100 colleges and universities accept the Common App, which makes it a good fit if FSC is one of several schools on your list. You can:
- Apply to several colleges using one central application
- Reuse your main personal essay across applications
- Invite recommenders and submit test scores from your dashboard
- Keep every deadline and requirement in one place
If you're already building a Common App account for other schools, adding FSC there keeps everything together.
The FSC application: shorter, and focused on you
If you're applying to just a few schools, or if FSC is at the top of your list, our application may be the simpler path. It's:
- Quicker to complete
- Built around shorter, more personal essay prompts written just for FSC
- Reviewed exactly the same way for admission and scholarship consideration
If the Common App essay feels like a lot right now, our prompts are shorter and more specific, which makes it easier to say something real about yourself.
So…Which Should You Choose?
The good news? There’s no wrong answer.
- Applying to several schools through the Common App? Go that route.
- Focused on FSC and want something quicker? Use ours.
Either way, your application gets the same personalized attention: a thorough review for admission, automatic scholarship consideration, special visit opportunities, and an admissions counselor who knows your name and your goals.
Pro Tip: Already started your Common App essay?
You can use it. If you switch to the FSC application, that essay still works, or you can choose from one of our three shorter prompts instead. Nothing you've written goes to waste.
