WTSP 10 News Opens Polk County Newsroom at FSC

WTSP-TV is expanding its news coverage in Polk County through a new partnership with Florida Southern. The 10News team is opening a new Polk Newsroom in the William F. Chatlos Building at FSC and also will partner with Polk County’s leading newspaper, The Ledger.

Polk County is the 3rd largest county in the Tampa Bay market, just behind Hillsborough and Pinellas County.

“We are so fortunate to be working with Florida Southern College because it has an outstanding reputation among colleges in the Southeast,” said 10News President and General Manager Elliott Wiser, “and our new partnership with The Ledger allows us to serve Polk County with accurate weather coverage while telling the positive stories that this community deserves.”

Reporter Marcus Grayson will be based in the Polk Newsroom in Chatlos. When not out covering stories, he will interact with FSC Department of Communication faculty and students, offering them guidance.

“This is a great opportunity for our journalism students to have first-hand access to a major-market media outlet,” said FSC President Anne Kerr. “WTSP is a leader in broadcast journalism, and we are so pleased that our students will have the opportunity to gain experience and insight from working with such a highly regarded news team.”

WTSP 10News will provide weather forecasts and radar coverage to The Ledger and will work closely with their team of reporters covering Polk County. Earlier this year, WTSP installed a Weather Bug camera on top of the Roux Library.

“We are delighted to begin a new partnership with 10News and look forward to working with their reporter in Polk County to share stories and video,” said Ledger Media Group Publisher Kevin Drake. “Their superb weather tracking system will serve our readers in print and online in new and exciting ways, delivering up-to-the minute forecasts of your changing weather patterns.”

10News is also excited about the opportunity to sponsor and promote events that will help the entire community of Polk County.
