Biography

Cory-Jeanne Murakami Houck-Cox, BA, ABT® Affiliate Certified Teacher Levels Primary-5 ABT NTC, is a choreographer, teacher, and retired prima ballerina. She is currently Adjunct Faculty at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL, where she teaches ballet, pointe and variations and works with her colleagues to help stage the classics. Currently Treasurer for Language of Dance, USA, she is also a former Policy Board member and Treasurer of NDEO, National Dance Education Organization. She is a Master Teacher and Teaching Artist and has been an adjudicator for Florida Magnet Dance programs. Her method of combining of ABT curriculum with national standards was published in Dance Education in Practice (DEiP). Cory-Jeanne was the first American ballerina to be chosen to dance with ballet superstar Irek Mukhamedov, International Grand Prix Awardee, of the Royal Ballet, for his premiere tour as a Guest Artist to the United States. By invitation, she attended the Sundance Choreographer’s Lab.  She co-created and performed in “Winter War” & “Proud Heritage”, recipients of Irvine Foundation and National Endowment of the Arts, which were presented at the Kennedy Center. CJ was named an Aspen Institute Scholar Fellow due to work in Arts and Diversity. She teaches and choreographs in Private Sector and Public Schools and is an Adjudicator for regional and national dance and ballet competitions.  Her former students are performing around the world in many genres.
